About Chichen Itzá

Chichen Itza is Mexico’s 2nd most visited archeological site (just after Teotihuacan).

Located only 112.7 miles (181.4 km) away from Playa del Carmen. A Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza drive shouldn’t take longer than 2 hours.

The Kukulkan Pyramid “El Castillo” in Chichen-Itza (24 m. high), was claimed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World elected in 07.07.2007.

The northern group of Chichen Itza’s monuments of Chichen-Itza: the Great Ball Court, the Temple of Kukulkan and the Temple of the Warriors, are masterpieces of Mesoamerican architecture because of their beauty, proportions, refinement of their construction and sculpted decorations.

Chichen Itza city declined after around 1440 A.D and was not excavated until 1841 A.D.

Additional information about Chichen Itza tours from Playa del Carmen:

Playa del Carmen Pick up details :

  • Pickups from major hotels in Playacar are included. In Playa del Carmen, due to the limited access to vehicles in the 5th avenue, we offer several easy-to-reach meeting points such as "Plaza La Fiesta" and "La Bodeguita de en Medio".
    • The exact pickup time is sent by email after the booking is completed.
    • Tours from Cancun and Riviera Maya are available.

  • How to get to Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen?: The best way to get there is taking a tour, you're on vacations, let an expert do the work for you! If you’re more into an adventure experience, you can rent a car or ride a bus (“ADO” is a first class bus company, with daily departures)
  • Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza bus: Our tour is offered on a comfortable air-conditioned van for only 20 people (personalized service guaranteed).
  • Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza drive: it shouldn’t take you more than 2.5 hours. Chichen Itza is on the main highway between Mérida and Cancun. If you have time and are looking for a more adventurist route, the "libre' road runs parallel to the toll highway, which goes by many villages and gives a better feel for the area.
  • Is it safe to drive from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza?: Yes, it is safe! We would recommend you to take the new toll road, you can save some extra time. Taking the toll road you don’t need to be alert for pedestrians and animals on the road or "speed bumps".
